Fees are determined after an initial discussion with the client to determine the difficulty of the case and the tasks to be entrusted to the firm.
Fees are either flat-rate or billed by the hour. A fee for results can also be added. In certain specific cases, a subscription may also be envisaged.
The choice of one or other of these billing methods depends essentially on the nature of the case to be handled (advice, assistance with a negotiated departure, litigation, etc.).
In all cases, the lawyer's mode of remuneration is the subject of a prior fee agreement with the client.
Regardless of the billing method used, the firm operates on a retainer basis. This means that the taking on and study of a case is subject to prior payment of a retainer.
Lawyers' fees are subject to value-added tax (VAT) at the current rate of 20%.
Fees are to be distinguished from costs, disbursements and emoluments such as travel expenses, photocopies, telephone calls, correspondence, documentation, etc., which are billed separately.
